Chaos Lord: The versatile commander. Usually he wants to go in the rhino with the melee marines (more on this below), however the aura that he gives does help the ranged marines and the obliterators. Which is better for him to do will just depend on the matchup.

Dark Apostle: The buffs he gives, to morale or from his prayers, makes it almost necessary for him to accompany the cultists. The best use of this is likely to rush them toward a contested objective.

Sorcerer: He has two powers: Diabolic Strength and Warptime. Diabolic Strength is a massive melee buff that is technically better on the cultists than it is the melee marines due to their sheer numbers, though whether they survive enough to receive it is questionable. Warptime is a very powerful ability that is best used on the rhino to push it into battle faster, though sometimes it could also be useful on the cultists if they're in position to become a threat.

Chaos Cultists: These guys are probably always going to die but the goal is for them to either soak up fire while doing so or at least hold an objective. They're actually a big threat in melee if the Sorcerer can get Diabolic Strength on them, but because they're on foot they won't always get into a fight. Their morale is naturally bad but is much improved with the Dark Apostle near them so he usually should be. The Dark Apostle can also use his prayer, Benediction of Darkness, which is almost essential to prevent them from being immediately shot to death.

Chaos Space Marines (Melee): This squad is designed to go inside of the rhino, preferably with the Chaos Lord. They're a moderately threatening melee unit even if in higher point games they'll totally be outclassed by melee specialists. They're also a good target for the Sorcerer to use Diabolic Strength since they're more likely to actually get into melee than the cultists are.

Chaos Space Marines (Ranged): Very good for sitting on an objective and for taking shots at infantry. Most of the squad as bolters which are rapid fire weapons that you want to close in to make useful, though they also have two heavy bolters that would take penalties to shoot with if you also move. The best thing for this squad to do is quickly get on (or start at) an objective and let the heavy bolters do most of the work.

Chaos Predator: This thing is a lascannon platform and exists to kill your opponent's heavy support, but be warned that your opponent's heavy support essentially exists to kill this as well. If it gets engaged in melee combat it won't be able to shoot, but lascannons have a huge range so just keep it in the back line and try to snipe vehicles with it.

Obliterators: While this army's troops all deal primarily with light infantry, the obliterators have some heavy weapons that are good against heavy infantry, bikers, and even light vehicles. Their movement range is terrible and their weapon range is not far, even if their weapons are very powerful. They are able to start in a teleporter and deepstrike into battle, which I think is the best use for them so they can teleport in close to the target that they need to kill.

Chaos Rhino: This is what the melee marines will likely go in, and probably the Chaos Lord as well. It's just a metal box designed to get them to their target alive. However, it's very useful to charge this into an enemy unit after the marines have disembarked and are about to charge themselves, it can soak up Overwatch fire.
